They say that Spring is a season of change, rebirth and growth. And we can see all of these things happening at the Platteville Golf and Country Club – how exciting! After a relatively mild winter, Mother Nature decided to remind us that it can get pretty cold and windy. The good news is that spring is just around the corner.

We are busy planning for next year, and are excited for what the 2018 golf season has in store for the membership! First we start with daylight savings time starting Saturday, March 11.

We will be celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day, Saturday, March 17 with a great food special. Randy and his staff will be preparing a Corned Beef Dinner. This will include corned beef, cabbage, baby red potatoes, carrots and your choice of salad for $12.95. Serving 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. with carry outs available. Reservations appreciated by calling (608) 348-5760.

March is a busy month on the golf course as Rob Udelhofen and his staff are busy working in the shop on equipment and then will start working on the grounds when weather permits. They will begin to mow fairways, tees, and roughs as they break dormancy. Clean up day is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 at 9 a.m. weather permitting. So mark your calendars and come out and help beautify the course and get it ready to open when weather permits. The more volunteers we have the faster it goes.

The Board has decided to put a fee to Rob’s services if he needs to go out on the course to assist someone with their cart. This would include when you have a break down, run out of gas, have a flat tire, etc.

We are in need of balls for the range. So if you have any used balls you would be willing to donate for the range, it would be much appreciated. Just take them out and drop off at the Pro Shop

Matt Romer, golf professional, is back and available Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. He’s there to take memberships, register for golf leagues, for your spring shopping, sign up for lessons, etc.

Now is also the perfect time to evaluate your golf clubs. Do they need any repairs or new grips, etc. Bring them in and get them ready for the season.

Men’s golf leagues will begin the week of May 15th; Couples league will start May 21 and Ladies league on May 23rd. The cost for this year’s couples league is $30 per couple and can be paid ahead of time with cash or check (made out to Romer’s Golf Shop). A meeting for the Ladies League is scheduled for May 4th at 5:30 at the club house. Sign up sheets for all leagues are posted on the bulletin board near the Pro’s office. Stop in to sign up or let Matt know, if you will be returning to league(s) this year.

The restaurant and bar will continue to be open on Thursday and Friday’s only 3 to closing during March with the exception of Sat., March 17th, for St. Patrick’s Day.

Please try our new menu on Friday nights. Randy Grimes has been generously donating his talents. The easy part is up to you to come out for good food and drinks. We appreciate all your support and encourage you to and let your family, friends, and valued associates know.

We want to thank Mike & Nancy Flannigan, Deb Bradley-Scott, Joe & Sandy Olthafer, Rob & Ann Udelhofen, Duane Stuelke and Gary Tuescher for helping with the flowers during the 2017 golf season.  Paula Stauffacher thinks spring is the best time of year. The trees and flowers start blooming, the grass stars growing again, and the gardens get planted with great expectations. Starting to think about the flowerbeds on the course and hoping again that people will volunteer to help out with a flowerbed. Please let Paula know if you are interested in assisting with any of the flowers. She can be reached at (608) 732-7025 or via email at
